The Douglas DC-9 is a twin engine, rear engined narrow body airliner introduced by Douglas Aircraft Company in 1965 for short to medium haul routes. It was produced into the 1980s and its basic design was extended through the later MD-80, MD-90 and Boeing 717 derivatives after Douglas merged with McDonnell.
