The Nissan TD series is a series of diesel engines manufactured by Nissan, all of them inline engines, most with four cylinders apart from the six-cylinder TD42. They have cast iron blocks and crossflow heads with swirl-chamber indirect injection, pushrod-actuated overhead valves, two valves per cylinder and a gear-driven camshaft. The article calls them simple, somewhat old-fashioned engines that are generally durable if not very powerful. A TD version was installed in the 1987 to 1992 Nissan Pickup D21 and the 1986 to 1988 E24 Caravan, and a TD replaced the earlier SD23 in Nissan Atlas 1-ton trucks in 1986.
