The Nissan SR is a series of 1.6 to 2.0 L straight-four petrol engines that Nissan manufactured from 1987 to 2007 as part of its PLASMA engine family. It uses a four-valve double overhead camshaft layout, with variable valve timing on selected models, and an aluminium head and block with steel sleeves. Unlike earlier Nissan four-cylinders, SR engines are chain driven rather than belt driven. Nissan designed the SR to replace the cast iron, timing belt CA series, and the QG, QR and MR series later replaced it. It powered many small to medium Nissan vehicles, including several high performance turbocharged variants.
