Nissan RD engine

Automotive Engines

The Nissan RD is the diesel version of the Nissan RB engine, with a single overhead camshaft and a six-cylinder layout. It succeeded the Nissan LD and SD six-cylinder engines and was joined by the six-cylinder TD engine. From 1997 turbocharged versions were fitted with electronic fuel injection; the turbodiesel is known as the RD28T, or RD28ET with electronic injection, and was also fitted to the Nissan Safari, also known as the Nissan Patrol. The block is similar to the RB30 but heavier, with an 85 mm bore against the RB30's 86 mm and an 83 mm stroke against 85 mm. Stronger diesel vibrations could loosen the crank bolt, a known problem.
