Nissan MR engine

Automotive Engines

The Renault-Nissan MR is a family of three and four-cylinder, all-aluminium, water cooled automobile engines with variable valve timing, developed by Renault and Nissan, and also by Mercedes-Benz since 2010 for the M9T/OM699. All have four valves per cylinder, and Renault calls the family the M engine. Notable features include acoustically equal runner lengths, a tumble control valve in the intake manifold, a silent timing chain, mirror finished crankshaft and camshaft journals and offset cylinder placement. The block is bored under stress with a torque plate fitted, so it is cut in the shape it takes once the head is torqued on. Nissan fitted it to models including the Tiida, Cube and Serena.
