The Nissan J series is a suite of straight-four and straight-six gasoline engines that Nissan produced from the 1960s through the 1980s, with overhead valve designs including the J13, J15, J16 and J18. It is similar to the BMC B-Series engine that Nissan built under licence as the 1H, but it was not a direct copy. The J13 was used in the 1965 to 1967 Datsun 411 and in the Datsun 520 and 521 trucks until the L engine replaced it, and the J15 was introduced in the Datsun 521 truck in 1969. The J16 was built mainly for utility vehicles, and the J18 was used in models built in Mexico from the mid 1980s until the mid 1990s. Nissan also called a Volkswagen five-cylinder engine J, but it shares nothing with this family.
