The Nissan E series name was used on two types of automobile engine. The first was an overhead valve line used in the late 1950s and throughout the 1960s. The second was an overhead camshaft version ranging from 1.0 to 1.6 litres, produced from 1981 till 1988, which the GA engine series replaced. The older E engines went into early Datsun cars and trucks, including the Bluebird 211, 310, 311, 312 and 410/411 series, the Datsun Truck 222 and the Fairlady SP212 and SP213 roadsters.
