The Mitsubishi KE engine is a range of overhead valve, iron-block engines that Mitsubishi Motors produced during the 1960s and early 1970s, for both gasoline and diesel use. They were used extensively in the Colt-branded vehicles the company built from 1963. The first digit after the KE gives the number of cylinders, so straight-4 versions are the KE4 series and the six-cylinder versions, such as the single overhead camshaft 2.0 L straight-6 developed in 1964 for the Mitsubishi Debonair flagship sedan, carry the KE6 prefix; the last digit is a serial number. The article describes individual members from the KE41 diesel and the petrol KE42, first used in the Jupiter Junior truck from 1963, through the KE43 to KE47 and the KE63 to KE65, and notes that the KE42 was developed into the overhead-cam Astron 4G52 while the KE47 was largely replaced by the 2.4 liter Astron 4G53 in 1975.
