Mitsubishi 4G9 engine

Automotive Engines

The Mitsubishi 4G9 is a family of four-cylinder gasoline engines made by Mitsubishi Motors for its cars, with 16 valves and either single or double overhead camshafts. It spans several displacements, from the 1.5 litre 4G91 and 1.6 litre 4G92 through the 1.8 litre 4G93 to the 2.0 litre 4G94, and some versions carry the MIVEC variable valve timing system. The family is best remembered for bringing gasoline direct injection to production in August 1996, and the 4G93 GDI sold in large numbers in Japan. The 4G92 MIVEC, at up to 170 PS, was one of the most powerful naturally aspirated 1.6 litre engines of its time. Proton and Volvo also used 4G9 engines in their cars.
