The Mitsubishi 4B4 engine is a turbocharged, all-alloy inline four-cylinder engine from Mitsubishi Motors, derived from the 4A9 engine that was introduced in 2004. It succeeds the larger 4B1 engine and is intended to match that engine's performance from a smaller displacement. The family was developed to meet newer performance, weight and emissions standards and is used mainly in compact and mid-size crossover SUVs, with peak torque delivered from 1,800 to 4,500 rpm. Its one listed version, the 4B40, is a 1.5 L unit with a 75 mm bore, an 84.8 mm stroke, a 10.0:1 compression ratio, direct acting DOHC 16-valve MIVEC intake valve timing and a fuel system that combines high-pressure direct injection with low-pressure port injection. Applications named by the article are the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross from 2017, the Mitsubishi Outlander with mild hybrid from 2023 and the Mitsubishi Destinator from 2025.
