The Lamborghini V8 is a 90 degree, naturally aspirated, all-aluminium V8 petrol engine that Lamborghini designed in the 1970s for its less expensive cars. It was only the second engine the company had developed, was designed by Giampaolo Dallara, and first saw production in the 1971 Lamborghini Urraco as a 2.5-litre unit. A 3.0-litre version followed in 1975, together with a 2.0-litre reduced-stroke variant for Italy, where punitive taxes applied to engines above two litres. The engine was also fitted to the Lamborghini Silhouette from 1976 and, enlarged to 3.5 litres, to the Jalpa from 1982 to help meet tightening emissions rules.
