The Lamborghini V10 is a ninety degree petrol V10 engine developed for the Lamborghini Gallardo, which was first sold in 2003. It was the first engine Lamborghini developed after Audi, part of Volkswagen Group, acquired the company, and its origins lie in two concept cars, the 1988 P140 and the 1995 Cala, both of which carried 3.9 litre engines. The crankcase and block are cast at the Audi Hungaria factory in Gyor, Hungary, and final assembly is carried out at Sant Agata Bolognese in Italy. The engine uses dry sump lubrication to keep its centre of gravity low and four valves per cylinder. Speculation that the block was closely based on the Audi 4.2 FSI V8 was denied, although the later 5.2 litre Lamborghini V10 proved mechanically identical to the Audi 5.2 V10.
