The Honda N engine is the N series, Honda's first automotive diesel engine, an inline four for medium-sized vehicles. It uses common rail direct injection, which Honda brands i-CTDi, and its most notable feature is an aluminium block made with proprietary manufacturing technology for light weight and high rigidity. Roller chains drive two overhead camshafts, and a variable-geometry turbocharger and intercooler are fitted. The family includes the 1.5 L N15A1 Earth Dreams i-DTEC, used for example in the Honda City, the 1.6 L N16A Earth Dreams i-DTEC with a single or twin turbocharger, and the 2.2 L N22A i-CTDi and N22B i-DTEC; the N22A is exclusive to European markets and meets Euro 4, while the N22B meets Euro 5.
