Honda L engine

Automotive Engines

The Honda L series is a compact inline-four engine that debuted in 2001 with the Honda Fit. It comes as the 1.2 litre L12A, the 1.3 litre L13A and the 1.5 litre L15A, and is sold worldwide in the Fit and Jazz hatchback, the Civic and the Fit Aria and City sedan, and also in the Japanese Airwave wagon and Mobilio. Most versions use i-DSI, intelligent dual and sequential ignition, with two spark plugs per cylinder firing at different moments for a more complete burn of the gasoline, while one variety of the L15A uses VTEC for more performance. Until April 2006 the series came only with a five-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission.
