The Honda F20C engine is a 2.0 L inline four that Honda produced for the S2000 roadster, together with the stroked 2.2 L F22C1 version. It is one of the few Honda four-cylinder automobile engines designed to sit longitudinally for rear wheel drive, and it is related to the F-series engines of the mid-1990s Accord and Prelude. It has two overhead cams with roller followers, VTEC on both the intake and exhaust camshafts, fibre-reinforced metal cylinder liners, forged aluminium pistons with coated skirts and a timing chain. Output was 250 PS in Japan and 240 hp in North America at 8,300 rpm, with a rev limit of 9,150 rpm, and its 125 hp per litre was the highest specific output of any mass production naturally aspirated piston engine in a car until Ferrari began building the 458 Italia in 2010. It won the International Engine of the Year award for 1.8 to 2.2 L engines five times, from 2000 to 2004.
