Honda EA engine

The Honda EA engine was a water-cooled inline two-cylinder, four-stroke petrol engine that Honda built for its kei cars. It was developed as the successor to the N360E, LN360E and TN360E engines, with a single intake and a single exhaust valve per cylinder driven by a timing belt, the first use of a timing belt in an engine in Japan. Two chain-driven balancer shafts cancel the engine's primary vibration, and heat-resistant sintered valve seats were fitted to cope with the lower lead content of commercial petrol. It first appeared in the Life announced on 11 May 1971, a twin-carburettor version followed in September 1972, and production ended in September 1974 when the Life series ended. The single-carburettor version made 23 kW (31 PS) and the twin-carburettor version 26 kW (36 PS). It was also fitted to the Honda Z.
