Honda B engine

Automotive Engines

The Honda B series is a family of inline four-cylinder engines with double overhead camshafts that Honda introduced in 1988. It was sold alongside the mostly single-cam D series, which was aimed at more economical uses, while the B series was the performance option and carried the first application of Honda's VTEC variable valve timing and lift system in certain models. It has a high-pressure die cast aluminium block with cast-in iron liners and was built in 1.6, 1.7, 1.8 and 2.0 litre versions producing between 126 and 197 horsepower, some able to rev to 8400 rpm. Two short blocks with different deck heights cover the whole series. The earlier B20A of 1985 is a different engine family, and the K series later replaced the B series in the Civic, Integra, Odyssey and CR-V.
