The Nissan VEJ30 is a 90-degree, turbocharged, four-stroke, gasoline-powered V8 sports car racing engine built by Nissan in the 1980s. In 1987 Nissan began work on an engine exclusively for race use, and the result was the VEJ30, developed by Yoshikazu Ishikawa. It displaced 2,996 cc with an aluminium alloy block and head, double overhead camshafts with four valves per cylinder and two IHI turbochargers, and made 750 to 800 hp. The article says it was based on old technology and was not a success; for 1988 Yoshimasa Hayashi improved it and renamed it the VRH30, with the displacement raised to 3.4 L. It was used in the Nissan R87E.
