The Honda RA122E is a naturally aspirated, Otto cycle racing engine that Honda built for Formula 1. It powered the 1992 McLaren MP4/7A driven by Ayrton Senna and Gerhard Berger, and it was the last 12 cylinder engine Honda raced in the World Championship. After a fragile 1991 V12, Honda engineers led by Osamu Goto restarted the design from a blank sheet for 1992. They widened the bank angle to 75 degrees, drove the throttle valves electrically from the accelerator pedal position, kept hydraulically actuated variable length intake trunks, used two injectors per cylinder and adopted nitrogen pneumatic valve springs. It produced 764 horsepower at 14,400 rpm on road-type fuel, against up to 804 horsepower on the special fuel allowed until the Hungarian Grand Prix.
