Mercedes V6 hybrid Formula One power unit

Automotive Engines

The Mercedes V6 hybrid Formula One power unit is a series of 1.6 litre hybrid turbocharged V6 racing engines developed and produced by Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains for Formula One. It has been in use since the 2014 season, first by the Mercedes works team. Each unit combines the combustion engine with a kinetic energy recovery system, the MGU-K, and until 2025 also carried a waste heat recovery unit, the MGU-H. Over years of development the output rose from 630 kilowatts, or 840 horsepower, at 15,000 rpm to 810 kilowatts, or 1,080 horsepower, at the same speed. Customer engines go to Williams, McLaren and Alpine, and Force India, Lotus and Manor were supplied in the past. The article records the 2025 Drivers and Constructors double with McLaren as its most recent championship victories.
