Nissan R'nessa

Automobiles

The Nissan R'nessa was a station wagon that Nissan Motors built from October 1997 to July 2001. Nissan said the name came from a packaging renaissance for versatile, spacious comfort on wheels. It competed with the Mitsubishi RVR and the Honda HR-V and was sold in Japan only through Nissan Satio Store dealerships. The 2WD models used the SR20DE engine, the 4WD X and G models were fitted with the KA24DE, and the GT Turbo came with the SR20DET and all-wheel drive. The R'nessa also gave rise to the Nissan Altra, an electric car built between 1998 and 2002 and introduced at the Los Angeles International Auto Show in December 1997. Only about 200 Altras were made, mainly as fleet vehicles in California, and it was the first production electric vehicle to use a lithium-ion battery.
