Fiat 24-32 HP

The Fiat 24-32 HP was a large four-cylinder car that Fiat introduced in 1901 and built in three series until about 1905. It was designed as a chassis on which coachbuilders could fit different bodies, and it came with a short, a medium and a long wheelbase. Engines grew from 6371 cc in the first series to 6902 cc in 1904 and 7363 cc in 1905. Contemporary accounts credit it with firsts for Fiat, including the first accelerator pedal and a gearbox with four forward gears, and a landaulet body. More than 400 were made at the Corso Dante plant in Turin. In 1902 Fiat also built a racing version, the 24 HP Corsa, with a steel chassis, which won hill climbs driven by Vincenzo Lancia.
