Fiat 1100 (1937)

Automobiles

The Fiat 1100 of 1937 to 1953 was a small family car from the Italian maker Fiat. It began in 1937 as the Fiat 508 C, also sold as the Balilla 1100, replacing the Fiat 508 Balilla with an enlarged 1,089 cc overhead-valve four-cylinder engine and independent front suspension. A restyle in 1939 renamed it simply the Fiat 1100, and it ran as three series, the 1100, 1100 B and 1100 E, until the unibody Fiat 1100/103 replaced it in 1953. Body styles included a pillarless saloon, a convertible saloon, a cabriolet, a long-wheelbase saloon and a taxi, and sports versions followed in the 508 C Mille Miglia and the 1947 1100 S. In France Simca built it as the Simca 8.
