The Shelby Mustang GT500 is a high-performance variant of the Ford Mustang developed beginning in 1967 by Carroll Shelby's Shelby American, adding a larger V8 engine and functional aerodynamic and cooling modifications to the standard Mustang fastback. Revived by Ford in later decades as a factory-built halo model bearing the Shelby name, it has remained the most powerful regular-production Mustang variant offered in each era it was built.
