The Maruti Suzuki Gypsy is a four-wheel-drive vehicle based on the long wheelbase Suzuki Jimny SJ40 and SJ410 series, built at Maruti Suzuki's Gurgaon plant and introduced in the Indian market in December 1985 with a 970 cc F10A engine. It was built primarily as an off-road vehicle with selectable four-wheel drive and became very popular with the Indian Armed Forces and law enforcement, instantly replacing the Premier Padmini as the quintessential Indian rally car. A widetrack version followed in 1993 and the 1.3 litre Gypsy King in 1996. Production for civilians stopped in March 2019 while batches continue for defence use. It was exported to countries such as Chile and Kenya and sold in New Zealand as the Suzuki Farm Worker.
