The Hyundai Santa Fe is a series of crossover SUVs that the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai has built across five generations since 2000. It is named after the city of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and was introduced for the 2001 model year as the first SUV Hyundai made. It was a milestone in the company restructuring programme of the late 1990s because it sold well to American buyers. It began as a compact SUV, moved into the mid-size class from the second generation in 2005, and has been offered with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive throughout. The fourth generation introduced hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, and the fifth, launched in 2023, has a boxier shape, stresses three-row seating and dropped diesel engines.
