Hyundai Galloper

Automobiles

The Hyundai Galloper was a full-size SUV that Hyundai manufactured from 1991 to 2004, a localised version of the first-generation Mitsubishi Pajero, also sold as the Galloper Exceed, Galloper Innovation, Mitsubishi Galloper, Asia Galloper or Hawtai Jitian. Chung Mong-koo led its localisation at Hyundai Precision and Industry, which first worked with Roush Enterprises on a four-wheel-drive utility vehicle, the X-100 ECS Roush, that never reached the market after test audiences panned it, and then chose the Pajero. A launch event was held at the Seoul Hyatt Hotel on 25 September 1991 and within a year it was the best-selling SUV in Korea; Hyundai sold 24,000 in 1992, 52 percent of the domestic market. A 3.0 litre V6 gasoline engine option was added in February 1992 and an intercooler on the turbodiesel in 1993. Demand for early Gallopers has grown since the early 2010s, and restomod versions have been built.
