Lola T290

Automobiles

The Lola T290 was a two-litre sports prototype racing car built by the British constructor Lola for the European 2-Litre Championship, and it gave its name to a family of closely related cars. Eric Broadley, Bob Marston and the then very young Patrick Head and John Barnard designed it around an aluminium alloy monocoque with a fibreglass body, as a simple chassis that customer teams could pair with ordinary engines. The improved T292 moved the disc brakes inboard and added a fixed rear wing and a longer nose, and it sold close to thirty units. Later cars in the line carried the T294, T296, T297, T298 and T299 numbers and the series ran from 1972 to 1981. It was raced widely, and Chris Craft took the 1973 European two-litre sports car title in a T292.
