Proton Saga

The Proton Saga is a Malaysian sedan built by Proton, introduced in 1985 as Malaysia's first domestically produced national car, developed with technical assistance from Mitsubishi Motors under a state-backed industrial policy intended to build a domestic Malaysian automotive manufacturing capability. Built at a price kept deliberately affordable through government protection and support, the Saga became a symbol of Malaysian industrial development and rapidly established itself as the best-selling car in Malaysia for many years after its launch. Later generations of the Saga adopted more Proton-developed engineering, and the model has remained one of Proton's core products and one of the most recognizable Malaysian-made vehicles, both domestically and, in smaller numbers, in export markets across Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
