The TX4 is a purpose-built London taxicab, or hackney carriage, produced by The London Taxi Company from 2007 to 2017; the company became a subsidiary of Geely of China in 2013. Its design evolved through several mutations from the Austin FX3 of the 1950s. Compared with the TXII it had a new front radiator grille, an updated interior and updated bumpers. The only engine offered in the UK was a 2.5 litre VM Motori R 425 diesel rated at a peak 75 kW, with a Chrysler five-speed automatic or an Eaton five-speed manual gearbox, while a 2.4 litre Mitsubishi petrol engine was offered outside the UK. It is built on a fully boxed hydroformed ladder frame with a separate body. A joint venture with Geely began building it in Shanghai in 2008, and Geely sells it as the Englon TX4. Anecdotally there was no TX3 because the engine was Euro 4 compliant. It was followed by the electric LEVC TX.
