The Maruti Suzuki Omni was a small van built in India by Maruti Suzuki, the Indian subsidiary of Suzuki. It was the second vehicle the company launched, arriving in 1984, a year after the Maruti 800, and its first version used the same 796 cc inline-three engine. Sold at first simply as the Maruti Van, it was renamed Omni in 1988, was facelifted in 1998 and 2005, and gained an eight-seat microbus, a higher-roof XL, cargo and LPG versions and an ambulance conversion that became a common sight in Indian cities. Sliding rear doors and a top-hinged tailgate suited both family and cargo use. Maruti Suzuki announced in April 2019 that it would discontinue the Omni after 35 years, because the flat-fronted van could not meet India's new safety and emission rules; the Eeco is its replacement.
