Mercedes-Benz 600

Automobiles

The Mercedes-Benz 600, chassis code W100, is a single generation of full-size ultra-luxury limousines made by Daimler-Benz from 1963 through 1981. Nicknamed the Grosser Mercedes after the 1930s Mercedes 770, it was priced well above the 300-series and at its 1963 launch was the most expensive car in the world. Advanced hydraulic systems, which Mercedes called the comfort hydraulic system and developed with Bosch, were a defining feature. Short-wheelbase saloons were designed to be owner-driven, while long-wheelbase Pullman limousines, often with a power divider window, were intended for chauffeur operation. Production totalled 2,677 units, made up of 2,190 saloons, 304 Pullmans, 124 six-door Pullmans and 59 landaulets, and the car was well known for its ownership among celebrities, political leaders and royalty.
