The Suzuki Wagon R is a kei car that Suzuki has built and sold since 1993, and it has been the best-selling kei car in Japan since 2003. The R in its name stands for Revolution and Relaxation. It uses a tall wagon body to gain as much cabin space as possible inside the length and width limits of the kei class, and the first generation stood 1,640 mm high, taller than the Alto of the time, with which it shared about 70 percent of its parts by value and the 660 cc three-cylinder F6A engine. The first generation was introduced at the 1993 Tokyo Motor Show and 900,000 were sold in Japan. Later generations added the sportier Stingray, a mild-hybrid system from the fifth generation in 2012 and an upgraded integrated starter generator in the sixth generation of 2017. Mazda has sold rebadged versions as the AZ-Wagon and Flair, and a larger Wagon R+ was sold in Europe.
