The Hyundai Veloster was a compact car produced by Hyundai from 2011 until 2022. It differed from most other hatchbacks in its asymmetrical door layout, with one large door on the driver side and two smaller doors on the passenger side, a layout more common on commercial vehicles and minivans. It grew out of the HND-3 concept shown at the 2007 Seoul Motor Show, and the production version was released at the Detroit Auto Show on 11 January. It was developed under the codename FS on a modified version of the front-wheel-drive platform of the Cee'd, and the first generation used a direct-injected 1.6 litre four-cylinder engine with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the first dual-clutch transmission Hyundai developed. Sales began in South Korea on 10 March 2011.
