Holden Torana

The Holden Torana is an Australian compact car built by Holden, General Motors' Australian subsidiary, produced from 1967 to 1980 across three distinct generations, developed initially from British Vauxhall engineering before evolving into an increasingly Australian-designed car with locally developed six-cylinder and V8 engine options. Built to compete in the Australian market's demand for both practical family compacts and genuinely fast performance cars, the Torana became particularly famous in its high-performance SL/R 5000 and A9X variants, which dominated Australian touring car racing, including the Bathurst 1000 endurance race, during the mid-to-late 1970s. The Torana's combination of Australian engineering identity and motorsport success made it one of the most celebrated performance cars in Australian automotive history, alongside contemporary rivals from Ford Australia.
