Riding Platforms and Howdahs

Seats, platforms and carriages fixed to the back of a riding or pack animal such as an elephant or a camel, used to carry passengers in comfort for travel, hunting, ceremony or war. An entry belongs here when the cited article calls the vehicle a howdah or another seat or cabin mounted on an animal. It excludes wheeled carts and carriages, sleds, litters carried by bearers and hand drawn carts. Entries are placed by what their own cited article says, so each one sits in the narrowest group its source supports, and the group page lists it beside the other members.
