The Convair CV-600 was a conversion of the piston-engined Convair CV-240 airliner in which Convair itself replaced the original engines with Rolls-Royce Dart turboprops driving four-blade propellers, in place of the three-blade propellers of the piston aircraft. The conversion work was done by Convair, and the type first flew with Central Airlines on 30 November 1965. It also served for many years with Trans-Texas Airways and its successor Texas International Airlines. One CV-600, operated by Air Metro Airways, was configured as a 40-passenger airliner. The last CV-600 still in service, with Rhoades Aviation, was withdrawn in 2012. It is one of several turboprop re-engining programmes applied to the Convairliner family, alongside the Napier Eland CV-540 and the Allison-powered CV-580.
