The Blohm und Voss BV 138 is a German trimotor flying boat built for maritime patrol and naval reconnaissance, its first production aircraft flying in April 1940 and entering operational service that October. Its distinctive twin boom tail and short, high sided hull earned it the nickname Der Fliegende Holzschuh, the Flying Clog, and it served as the Luftwaffe's primary long range maritime patrol aircraft through the Second World War, with 297 examples built.
