Junkers Jumo 205

Aircraft Engines

The Junkers Jumo 205 is a German opposed piston, two stroke aircraft diesel engine with twelve pistons in six cylinders and two crankshafts geared together, the most numerous of a series of aircraft diesel engines Junkers developed from the 1930s. About 900 were built, powering the Junkers Ju 86 high altitude reconnaissance bomber and the Blohm & Voss BV 138 and BV 222 flying boats; its low exhaust temperature made supercharging for high altitude easier, though it proved less responsive for combat roles than gasoline engines.
