The Airbus BelugaXL, formally the A330-743L, is a large outsize-cargo transport aircraft that Airbus built on the airframe of the A330-200 to carry aircraft components between its factories. The programme was launched in November 2014 to build five aircraft to replace the five original Beluga transporters, which were based on the older A300-600. The BelugaXL made its first flight on 19 July 2018 from Blagnac, Toulouse, received its type certification on 13 November 2019 and entered service with Airbus Transport on 9 January 2020. The programme cost about 1 billion euros for development and production, a sixth aircraft joined the fleet in June 2019, and the type is scheduled to fully replace the original Beluga in 2027.
