The Mitsubishi SpaceJet, originally the Mitsubishi Regional Jet or MRJ, was a regional airliner project run from 2007 to 2023 by Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and meant to be the first Japanese airliner since the 1962 YS-11. The low-wing twinjet used underwing Pratt and Whitney geared turbofans, the first programme to select that engine, and its airframe was mainly aluminium. The M90 would have seated 86 to 96 and a smaller version 70 to 80. The MRJ90 first flew on 11 November 2015, and eight test aircraft were built. After repeated delays the programme was put on hold in October 2020 and officially cancelled in February 2023.
