Sukhoi Su-47

Supersonic and Experimental Aircraft

The Sukhoi Su-47 Berkut, meaning golden eagle, NATO reporting name Firkin and designated S-32 and S-37 during initial development, is a Russian twin-engine, forward-swept wing, supersonic technology demonstrator from the Sukhoi Company. Powered by two Soloviev D-30 engines, its forward sweep was intended to give the aircraft more agility and maneuverability. Serial production never materialized and the configuration was not pursued further, but the single aircraft built served as a prototype for technologies later used in the Su-35 and the Su-57. It was first flown in 1997 and redesignated Su-47 in 2002, appeared regularly at the MAKS air show until 2007, and made one more appearance in 2019.
